DHS Approved Memory Care Training Programs

Build the knowledge and confidence to support individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Arizona Institute for Health Sciences offers memory care training for staff and managers, with an emphasis on person-centered care, effective communication, and a safe, supportive environment.

8-Hour Initial Training for All Staff
This foundational course introduces dementia and its effects on daily life. Staff learn practical approaches to communication, assistance with daily activities, responding to dementia-related behaviors, and preserving each resident’s dignity and independence.

Additional 4-Hour Training for Managers
Building on the initial 8-hour course, this training focuses on the manager’s role in supporting quality memory care through staff guidance, care coordination, and oversight of a resident-centered environment.

4-Hour Refresher Courses
Designed for staff and managers who have completed their initial training, these courses reinforce essential memory care principles and help participants strengthen their approach to residents’ changing needs.
