About Course

Arizona Institute for Health Sciences (AIHS) provides training for individuals seeking opportunities to advance their careers in caregiving. This course is designed to meet a 62-hour training for Assisted Living Facility Caregivers as mandated by the State Board. It uses a blended learning approach to provide flexibility for students by completing the online modules while receiving instruction from qualified instructors.

  • Unit 2: Legal and Ethical Issues 
  • Unit 3: Effective Communication Skills for Caregivers 
  • Unit 4: Developing, Using, and Maintaining Resident Service Plans 
  • Unit 5: Infection Control and Standard Precautions in Residential Facilities 
  • Unit 6: Nutrition and Food Preparation   
  • Unit 7: Emergency Care and Disaster Prevention 
  • Unit 8: Homecare Environment and Maintenance 
  • Unit 9: Mental Health and Social Service Needs   
  • Unit 10: Care for Residents with Cognitive Impairment     
  • Unit 11: Basic Caregiver Skills       
  • Unit 12: Basic Restorative Services       
  • Unit 13: Medication Management       
  • Unit 14: Skills Training       

Once you've completed all the online modules and assessments, the next step involves attending a face-to-face session at the institution. Following this, you'll have the flexibility to choose a convenient date and location for your caregiver knowledge exam. Randy is a Board Certified Assisted Living Facility Manager (ALFM-BC) through the Arizona Board of Examiners of Nursing Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers (NCIA). He is an advanced generalist clinician with education at the master's degree level.
